Aquests dies es troben reunits a Palermo els socis del projecte Interreg MED estratègic Proforbiomed, de promoció de l’ús de la biomassa forestal per a ús energètic.
El projecte gira al voltant de dotze accions pilot que estan servint per determinar les línies mestres de gestió forestal i logística de cara l’obtenció de biomassa llenyosa per a ús energètic.
Diferents regions, entre elles Catalunya, han estimat les quantitats corresponents al potencial tècnic d’aprofitament de biomassa forestal per a energia. Els següents passos s’encaminen a la estimació, segons diferents escenaris, de les millors alternatives de cara la optimització energètica global de tota la cadena de producció, tenint en compte també les possibilitat que ofereix la cogeneració en el marc de les smart grids, essent un exemple d’això la recentment inaugurada unitat de microcogeneració del CTFC, basada en gasificació de biomassa forestal. En aquest sentit, la col·laboració amb l’Institut Forestal d’Eslovènia i amb la Regió de Macedonia Occidental està sent fonamental.
Així mateix, el CTFC ha estat líder en la elaboració i testatge d’un protocol de traçabilitat de biocombustibles sòlids, que properament serà complementat amb la proposta realitzada per un altre soci del projecte, la Fundazione Lombardia per l’Ambiente. Aquesta acció respon a una demanda del sector per tal de potenciar el consum local, aspecte que, a més, suposa molts avantatges sobre la eficiència global en la generació d’energia tèrmica (per exemple, per a calefacció i aigua calenta).
També en el marc del projecte cal destacar la col·laboració amb la Federació d’Associacions de Propietaris Forestals de Catalunya (Boscat), el Centre de la Propietat Forestal (CPF), el Departament d’Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca, Alimentació i Medi Natural (DAAM) i algunes empreses forestals de cara a solucionar alguns colls d’ampolla en la producció i subministrament de biomassa forestal, especialment de masses de pi blanc (Pinus halepensis). Addicionalment, els resultats de socis molt propers, como ara l’Ajuntament d’Enguera, l’Agencia de Gestión de la Energía de la Región de Murcia (equivalent a l’ICAEN) i les administracions públiques forestals de la Región de Murcia i la Comunitat Valenciana, totes treballant també amb masses de pi blanc, estan contribuint de manera molt important a la definició de les millors condicions per a la mobilització sostenible de biomassa forestal per a ús energètic.
Els resultats de tot aquest treball es començaran a difondre ja enguany i, amb major intensitat, durant 2014.
These days have gathered in Palermo the partners of the Strategic Interreg MED project PROFORBIOMED, which deals with the promotion of the use of the residual forest biomass for energy purposes.
The heart of the project are twelve pilot actions designed to determine the best practices of forest management including the energetic use of the wood resource.
Different regions, among them Catalonia, have estimated their corresponding potential quantities of the technically available forest biomass for energy. The following steps are oriented to the estimation, according to different scenarios, of the best alternatives for optimising comprehensively the energy balance of the production and specially the supply chain. In addition, it will be also taken into account the possibility that offers the cogeneration in the frame of the smart grids, being an example thereof the recently operative micro CHP unit of the CTFC, based on gasification of forest biomass. In this sense, the collaboration with the Slovenian Forest Institute and with the Region of Wester Macedonia is being crucial.
Likewise, the CTFC has been leader in the drafting and testing of a protocol of traceability of solid biofuels, that will soon be complemented with the proposal drafted by another partner of PROFORBIOMED, the Fundazione Lombardia per l’Ambiente. This action responds a demand of the Catalan bioenergy sector in order to promote the local consumption implying, in addition, many advantages on the overall efficiency in the generation of energy (for example, for heating and hot water).
Also in the frame of the project it is important to highlight the collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Forest Owners of Catalonia (Boscat), the Centre of the Forest Ownership (CPF), the Catalan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment (DAAM) and some forest companies for finding solutions to solve some bottlenecks in the production and supply of forest biomass, specially in Pinus halepensis stands. In addition, the results of nearby partners (municipality of Enguera, the Regional Energy Agency of Murcia, equivalent to the Catalan ICAEN, and the public forest administrations of the Región of Murcia and the Autonomic Community of Valencia) which are all working also with Pinus halepensis’ stands, are contributing in a relevant way to the definition of the best conditions for the sustainable mobilization of forest biomass for energetic use.
The results of all this work will be disseminated already this year and, with a greater extent, during 2014.
