Promoció de la producció sostenible de biomassa forestal al MediterraniPromotion of the sostenible production of the forest biomass in the Mediterranian

The last week the partners of the Proforbiomed project met in Ptuj (Slovenia), the goal of the project is to promote the increasing demand of the energy forest biomass. The participants regions are Mediterranian, with partners which proceed from Algarve (Portugal), from South and Nord-Weast of Italy, from Macedonia (Greece), from Provence (France), from Slovenia, from the Valencian Community and Murcia (Spanish State).

The core of the project are the pilot projects which have been started to plan and are going to develop during 2012 and 2013 years. The results will guide the policy concerning the management of forest biomass from the Mediterranian countries.

In Catalonia, the Forest Sciences Center of Catalonia (CTFC), and more specifically the Harvesters and Biomass Department (AFIB), is working since Juin of this year, and in a coordinated way, with the partners of the project and the Catalan entities interested in the results. The pilot projects are going to work aspects of the production chain of the energy forest biomass, of the production of the woody biomass in short crops, of the certainty of the sostenibility and the traceabilityob the solid biofuel forest and the promotion of the coordination.

The Proforbiomed project brings together very dynamical institutions in their regions and in an European level, as the Slovenian Forest Institute (SFI), the forest administrations from Murcia, the Valencian Country, Algarve and Sicila, the University of Western Macedonia (Greece) and others.

Therefore, Proforbiomed is an opportunity for the bionergy sector in Catalonia to going on its evolution towards a market standards,  sostenible, stable and strong. In Slovenia, the facilities of  forest biomass net heat from the Lenart town and with an installed power of 3,5 MWth were visited.
